Make a statement with floral hairstyles fit for a DIY bride.

After my last post on putting flowers in your hair, I got to thinking about weddings. Flowers and hair are two important details when planning a wedding. Flowers add beauty, color, and life to a wedding, as they do to a hairstyle.

I have a friend named Althea Wiles who is the owner and creative talent behind Rose of Sharon Floral Designs. She designs beautiful and inspired floral schemes for weddings (and many other events!) in Northwest Arkansas. Check out her website here. ‘Like’ her Facebook page and consider her your personal expert in all things floral.

I thought it would be fun to do a post together that combines her expertise in choosing flowers that set the tone for the wedding and my expertise in creating DIY bridal hairstyle tutorials.

Together we have created some bridal floral hair designs to help you on your way to choosing your DIY bridal hairstyle, and your floral wedding scheme.

For a soft romantic bridal hair look…

A Dahlia on a ribbon headband is simple, soft, and gorgeous. Headbands are very popular right now and dahlias always make a statement. With the coordinating colors in the ribbon and Dahlia, a soft and romantic look is easy to create. -Althea

Try a simple hairstyle like the one shown above.….

Other pretty boho-inspired bridal hair flower option are Daisies or Mums. Easy field blooms always lend themselves to a boho look. -Althea
I love the thought of the Daisies next to an intricate looking DIY bridal hairstyle like this one.
To get this look, I left 3 inch stems on each flower and just poked them right in around the base of the Infinity Braid bun. I pinned in the ones that felt loose, but almost all of them were secure on their own.

Echinacea with some Babies Breath and wispy wheat grass looks perfect for a fall wedding, and works beautifully with a soft yet classy 1940’s inspired DIY hairstyle like this one.
I arranged the flowers and grasses together and then stuck them into the hairstyle so that the ends would be hidden, and then I bobby pinned the ends against the head.

You can’t go wrong with Prim or Rock Roses and tiny buds, braided into the hair with some left down, long and flowing.

For this look, I created the braids, then collected the flowers and buds and trimmed their stems to about an inch. I stuck the stems through the braids in different places. The stems have tiny thorns that make it hard to get them through, so I gave them a gentle wiggle and they popped through. They stayed in there tight because of those little thorns!

A twist on classic…

There is nothing is more classic than the Rose.  Because standard Roses are heavy, I chose the miniature spray roses and attached them to a comb for this look. -Althea

Paired with a simple yet not completely polished french twist, the look is classic but not too tidy. Perfect for a ladies who like a traditional feel without too much fuss.

For a crisper more streamlined look, try a single perfect red Rose, paired with a very polished DIY hairstyle like this one.

Make sure to leave a nice long stem on the rose so you can poke it right under your bun, tightly against your head so it doesn’t go anywhere!

Modern with an edge

A more modern DIY bridal hair flower option would be something that pairs the vivid color of a composite Gladioli with different textures like wire and pearls as seen in this DIY wedding hair accessory.

The decorative wire can be made into any shape and adds a nice contrast to the softness of flowers- Althea

Pair it with a Modern bride braided bun!

I love the look of several large sprays of Babies Breath to add a smattering of delicate texture, reminiscent of a vintage chapeau or perhaps The Big Bang?

Just stick the ends of the Babies Breath right into the hairstyle so they come out the top.

And try Babies Breath in the flower girls hair, too!

Billy Balls are a interesting and unique floral accent. -Althea

I think that they would look cool with a sci-fi inspired bridal hairstyle like this one.
